Weeks ago Peggy called out in surprise,
Scarcely too sure that in front of her eyes
Hopped a big bunny as bold as could be.
Couldn’t we keep him, she pleaded with me.
Well, I explained, he would not be content;
But, if his friendship she’d like to cement,
She could provide him with items for lunch —-
Carrots and lettuce and tidbits to munch.
Faithfully these she’s been carrying out
‘Till, in his set, he is Bunny the Stout.
Lately, we’ve noticed his cotton-tailed tots
Following him to the Eden of spots.
Guess we’d have welcomed his uncles and aunts
Up to today —- when he ate Mother’s plants.
Bunnies, like people, it now can be said,
Miss where to stop when they’re clearly ahead.
